Sydney awaits the winner of this Saturday blockbuster between the Geelong Cats and the Brisbane Lions.
Brisbane was meant to be a team on a mission in 2024 to finish their story and finally win a flag. They looked dead at the halfway mark, languishing in the bottom area of the ladder and struggling to play with any consistency.
Geelong was the opposite, they started strong when many felt their time was finally coming to an end. Yes, they had a lull in the middle of the season but corrected their issues within a few games. It’s hard to fathom the consistency they have shown over the past 20 years. I’ve watched my Blues be horrible for the same period of time and forever wondering if it will ever turn around.
This year feels like Brisbane’s last chance to win a flag for this group of players. It would be devastating to work your way out that early season hole, win an all-time semifinal last week and then lose in the penultimate round.
Geelong, I have no doubt will be back in the hunt in the coming years anyway. They have proven it time and time again for two decades.
The Lions are the best team on paper in the league, the Cats the most consistent.
Should be a cracker.
